Board Members

We wanted you to hear from each board member and learn a little about them. We hope that when you see them at events that you will introduce yourselves and get to know them. All of them are looking forward to hearing from you, the people we represent, about what you would like PFLAG to be doing in our community.

Nancy Baker, President

Nancy moved to Nevada County from southern CA in late 2011 to enjoy living back in the rural country side, having primarily grown up in the mountains of Montana. With her extensive experience as a corporate CFO and a personal satisfaction in helping people, she wanted to give back to her community where she felt she could help the most and where her talents were needed. After meeting new people, exploring the area, and being invited to various local events, she was introduced to the local PFLAG Chapter, attended a few board and support meetings and was instantly enamored by the group. “PFLAG Nevada County plays an important role in this community in assisting the youth, parents, the LGBTQ community, and all their allies. I wanted to be a part of that wonderful local support infrastructure, help strengthen the group as an organization, and assist in leading the community into a more balanced, accepting and welcoming environment. I look forward to all the great things we can accomplish through this group and all the people we can help through their life’s journey.

Pat Rose, Vice President

I came to PFLAG in 2003 because I was looking for a social group where I could meet other LGBT people. I quickly learned that PFLAG wasn’t a social group but instead was a group of very caring people who wanted to make a difference for the LGBT community, especially here in Nevada County. I’ve been a part of PFLAG in one capacity or another since then.
I’m very excited that our chapter is growing and has found new directions for the 2014-2015 year. We have found new ways to focus on working with the youth of Nevada County. We are working closely with the GSA groups in our high schools and have a new volunteer who will be working closely with each club. The youth are our future leaders and we want to encourage them to be the best they can be in all areas of their life.
I am really looking forward to working with the other PFLAG Board and committee members as we progress into the next year.

Karle deProsse, Treasurer

I joined PFLAG because I feel that everyone should be able to feel good about being themselves without encountering prejudices. I value being a part of an organization that helps LBTGQ youth and adults cope with the adverse portions of our society, and strives to enlighten an ill-informed public. Although as a whole we have made many strides forward in recent years, we still live in a religiously conservative county. LBTGQ people, their families, and our community need support and education in order to bring Nevada County to a place of true acceptance and unconditional love.
